FEDERAL AGENCIES AND RESOURCES

  • Center for Disease Control  – Virtually unrivaled source in the breadth and depth of medical and health-related information offered. Includes: traveler health information, CDC Wonder, publications as well as data and statistics.
  • OSHA Computerized Information System  –  The OSHA website offers a full library of regulations and interpretations, countless training resources and other subject-specific resources. They are committed to improving the workplace safety and health of all workers and develop programs and services to meet this end. Easy to navigate.
  • National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health –  NIOSH is a Federal Agency whose responsibilities include investigating hazardous working conditions; evaluating hazards in the workplace; creating methods for preventing disease, injury, and disability; and conducting research and providing recommendations for protecting workers. The website provides information about NIOSH and their activities.
  • Bureau of Labor Statistics –  The best source for reliable statistical information, including injury data and outcomes.
  • Department of Justice ADA Homepage Access ADA reference materials, technical assistance and stay current on new and proposed regulations.
  • Combined Health Information Database –  CHID is a database produced by health-related agencies of the federal government. It provides titles, abstracts, and availability information for health and health education resources. Maintained by the NIH, this database lists a wealth of health promotion and education materials and program descriptions that are not indexes elsewhere.
  • Healthfinder –  Healthfindertm is a gateway for consumer health and human services information from the U.S. government. It links to selected online publications, clearinghouses, databases, we sites, and support groups, as well as government agencies and not-for-profit organizations that produce reliable information for the public.

  • Duke Occupational & Environmental Medicine – This is the original (and best) source for all kinds of occupational and environmental medical issues. Includes: links to regulatory agencies; access to occupational and environmental medicine mail list archives; long list of other occupational medicine web sites; important news and issues.
  • The Mayo Foundation for Education and Research – Use this site to search the Mayo clinic database for the latest research and information.
  • Merck Manual Online – This well-known basic medicine text is fully available and fully searchable at this site. A useful resource for practitioners and clinicians.
  • National Library of Medicine – The largest and best collection of medical research information. FREE access to MEDLINE providing the most up-to-date medical information available to all citizens.
  • The Occupational Health Research Resource Center  – Well-organized site dedicated to occupational health which includes: News & Comments; Outcomes & Protocols; Reference Library; Provider Network; and links to Related Sites.
  • Medical Matrix – Over 3000 entries broken down into the following categories: Specialty and Disease Categorized Information; Clinical Practice; Literature (including full-text and international journals); Education; Healthcare and Professionals: Computers, Medical Internet and Technology; and Marketplace. Must register but the site is free.
  • Reuter’s Medical News  – Provides breaking news in the medical field. Some news is free; some requires subscription.
  • ErgoWeb – Access resources, case studies, and tools for ergonomic evaluations.
  • ATSDR Science Corner – Gateway to environmental health information and resources. Simple and user friendly guide with a vast and useful compendium of environmental health information.
  • RxList – The Internet Drug Index – Searchable index of drugs including actions/interactions/brands and imprint codes. Provides general information on over 4000 U.S. drug products. A "Top 200" feature provides generic prescribing information on 200 products that represent nearly 2/3 of all prescriptions filled in the U.S.
  • Pharm InfoNet – A pharmaceutical information network, including industry publications, drug information, discussion groups and disease-specific drug information. Links to other pharmaceutical/pharmacy sites.
  • HealthGate – A leading provider of medical resources on the Web, this site provides information for various audiences, including clinicians, researchers and patients. Created to facilitate improvements in biomedical research, medical education, public health, patient education and patient care.
  • Health on the Net – An international initiative, Health on the Net is a non-profit organization which facilitates access to support communities, medical resources, health care news, health databases, and other support systems for individuals, health professionals and health care providers.
  • MediConsult – A "virtual medical center" providing high-quality, patient-oriented medical information and moderated support to patients, families and health care professionals. Information is organized by medical condition.
  • PreventivePLUS – Disease prevention and health promotion.
